At Encounters Europe, education is about more than reading a textbook. It is about hands-on learning and real-life experiences that are impossible to forget. Out-of-classroom education gives depth to the curriculum. It can improve educational attainment and it makes an important contribution to students' physical, personal and social education. The cross-curricular nature of out-of-classroom education also allows it to contribute to learning in a wide range of areas, including, but not restricted to: 
- history and citizenship, through visits to museum and heritage sites;
- art and design, through visit to galleries and experiences of the built environment; 
- food technology, through discovering different European cuisines and methods involved in food preparation;
- modern languages, through exposure to different cultures and languages;
- practical or vocational skills that cannot be practiced in a classroom environment;
- the use of the environment as a tool to enrich the curriculum across subject areas.
